Message | Be Wary if You're Wealthy (James 5:1-6)

James has some very severe words of warning for wealthy people (like us). He is especially harsh with those who have wealth they have hoarded. The questions for us are: How do you know you have enough? When does wise saving become excessive? What should we do to make sure the warnings of James don’t come to pass for us?

Message | “The Dash Goes Fast”. (James 4:13-17)

On your tombstone there is a birth date and a death date and the rest of your life is a dash in-between. James teaches us that dash goes fast…our life is but a midst. Our time here is short. Which means we don’t have time to waste. Which is why wasting any opportunity to do good is a sin. We are presuming on God to assume we will have another chance to do the good tomorrow that we have the opportunity to do today.

Message | Submit and Resist (James 4:1-12)

Jesus made a promise to his friends that just as the world hated him, the world would hate them too. Yet, for many who claim Christ, they have instead chosen friendship with the world, without knowing that means enmity with God. There are two powers at work around us, the power of God and the power of the Devil. And inevitably we will submit to one, and resist the other.

Message | WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? (James 3:1-12)

We have all said things that we instantly regret. Things we wish we could unsay. Our words have deceived people, hurt people, insulted people, and angered people. While we often blame it on the tongue, the tongue only expresses what is in our heart. We have a heart problem, and while no man can tame the tongue, we worship a God who can transform our hearts.

Message | “A faith that won’t save you.”

It doesn’t matter what you believe if that belief doesn’t impact what you do. Biblical faith is not simply attesting to a set of doctrinal truths, it is living your life in the light of the doctrinal truths. True faith is always displayed through actions. And if you have no actions, then your faith is as good as dead.

Message | The Problem with Prejudice (James 2:1-13)

We live in a world where prejudice is rampant. From the way one speaks, to the color of one's hair, the neighborhood they live in, the shape of one's body, and to the color of one's skin. However, it should not be that way among the people of God. We have been given a very specific command from God, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Your big neighbor, your black neighbor, your rich neighbor, your ugly neighbor, your Republican neighbor, your homeless neighbor, and even your pastor neighbor. In t...

Message | You Need to Walk the Talk (James 1:19-27)

Most Christians thoroughly enjoy hearing good teaching. We are often wowed by truths that good teachers and preachers bring out of the text. The problem is, far too many of us don’t do anything with what we learn. In the words of James, we “deceive ourselves” by thinking that simply hearing the word does us any good. This week we are going to talk about actually doing what the Scriptures say.

Message | The Devil Didn't Make You Do It (James 1:13-18)

There are three forces that lead us into temptation: The Devil, the world, and our flesh. James clarifies that God cannot and will not tempt us, our temptations come when we "are dragged away by [our] own evil desire and enticed."

Message | How Perseverance is Produced (James 1:1-12)

How can we consider it "pure joy" when we face trials? It's not that the trials are joyful, but rather it's what the trials produce that we should take joy in. Trials test our faith and produce perseverance. Therefore we should be joyful in the perseverance that is produced through trials, which strengthens our faith.

Message | Made New

We've all heard of the "New Year New Me" mentality when it comes to New Year's resolutions. This year, instead of starting a diet or workout routine, becoming more productive, or other self focused improvements, maybe we should shift our focus to God and becoming more like Him. If you've already dedicated your life to the Lord, this year could be "New Year, New EVERYONE ELSE" as you focus on sharing the gospel and making more and better disciples of Jesus. Everywhere. Always.

Message | Christmas Eve Service

Over the last few weeks as a church, we have been focusing on some parts of the Christmas story that often get skipped, namely the four songs recorded for us in the Christmas story in Luke chapters 1 and 2. Today we will look at a few thoughts about the least known song from the first Christmas, the song of Simeon, a guy who knows what it means to wait.

Message | The Angel's Song (Luke 2:14)

Luke 2:14…14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” This is one of the most famous lines connected to the Christmas story…Peace on earth. You will see this phrase written in lights…crocheted on pillows…painted on coffee cups…we love to talk about peace this time of year. Peace on earth is a message that everyone can get behind. But don’t miss this…the peace that Jesus came to give…isn’t for everyone.
