Situated in the northwest of the country, Aleppo is the most populous city in Syria, with a population of 2.1 million in 2004, and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. the Christian communities here are facing a new threat, with fears that Jihadists may be to blame for cutting off essential water and electricity supplies in the city.
