The European Parliament during the week voted in favour of the ‘Lunacek Report’ which was described as an EU roadmap against homophobia and discrimination.
394 MEPs voted in favour of this report which was put forward by Austrian MEP Ulrike Lunaceck, while 176 voted against it. 11 of the Irish MEPs (out of 12) voted in support of the initiative.
Concerns have been expressed that this report goes a long way beyond the issues of violence and discrimination, but that it has implications for what Member States can do in all public policy domains, not only public health and education, but also employment, asylum, and external relations
Senator Ronan Mullen, who has declared his intention to run for election as an MEP for the Midlands-North-West constituency spoke to Rojo about the report amongst other things
