Cork teenager Joanne O’ Riordan is one of the few people in the world living with Total Amelia Syndrome. Born without limbs, Joanne has faced every obstacle life has given her head on – and often with a smile and a wicked sense of humour.
It was at a telecommunications conference at the UN in New York in April 2012 where she challenged delegates to build her a robot capable of picking up objects. LESS THAN TWO years after that speech she will have the chance to meet her new robot.
A team of engineering students from Trinity College in Dublin and with the assistance of a donation of €50,000 from the ITU, built Robbie the Robot, which was unveiled to the public at a recent launch at Trinity College.
