We have heard a huge amount over the last number of weeks about whistle blowers, as the penalty points controversy has raged, leading to the resignation (or ‘retirement’) of the most senior Garda in the land, and also a ‘no confidence’ debate in the Dáil about the role of the Minister for Justice.
The role of the whistle blower is never an easy one, which can be met with scepticism, fierce scrutiny and at times outright hostility.
Rojo spoke to nurse Jill Stanek who observed a practice that she was fairly sure was illegal, as well as inhumane. She had a choice to make – look the other way and get on with her job, or speak out about the practice and risk losing that job.
Regular Niamh UÃ Bhriain also spoke about the Convention for Life being held in Dublin.
