On Wednesday 11th March 2015, the Irish online outreach Every Life Counts will join groups from around the world at a UN conference in Geneva to make the case that the term “incompatible with life” is not a medical diagnosis and should not be used when describing unborn children who may have a life-limiting condition.
Tracy Harkin from Every Life Counts has an 8 year-old daughter who was born with trisomy 13, a rare genetic disorder caused by chromosomal abnormality which significantly reduces the life expectancy of most infants diagnosed with the condition. Tracy spoke to Wendy about the delegation to Geneva, why they object to the term “incompatible with life”, and what they hope to achieve at the conference.
