Proud Ancestors
Nick and I spend a bit of time having a discussion about a recent Facebook post that got our attention. The post we are talking about asked the question: “would our great grandfathers would be proud of the pursuit of trophy whitetails by hunters today?”. There was a good bit more unpack with that post and Nick and I just had a conversation much like we would have done had we been sitting around a campfire. Nothing we say here was meant to be an attack on the individual that made the post or to m...

I would also appreciate ideas for future podcasts and feedback on this or other episodes. So feel free to reach out to me at the email addres...

T.O. Episode 138 – Another Buck, Another Obstacle
Episode 138 finds me with mixed emotions. I recently tagged out on bucks in Georgia. However, both bucks I have taken in GA with my longbow were not perfect shots. The second buck was taken on 12/04/22 and the shot was a lot further back than I wanted. I ended up not tracking that buck and waited for 12 hours and then picked up his track with the help of a tracking dog. We found the buck just over 200 yards away but I would have much preferred a quicker, and cleaner kill. It happens to all bowhu...

T.O. Episode 136 – An Unlikely Recovery
Episode 136 finds me running solo again. This episode is all about a recent successful bowhunt that came within inches of being a failed attempt. I took a shot at a whitetail buck at about 18 yards, I was focusing so hard on the spot I wanted to hit that I never even noticed the small limb just a few feet from my bow. The arrow struck the limb almost immediately on release and as I watch the arrow I expected a miss but watched while it appeared that my arrow bounced off the bucks shoulder or leg...

T.O. Episode 135 – Thanksgiving 2022 with Nick Viau
Episode 135 Nick joins the podcast for a Thanksgiving 2022 episode to catch on success for the 2022 Whitetail season. Nick had success in early November at the Michigan Deer camp he nicknamed “Camp Classy” years ago. I also have had success with a nice 8 point buck in North Carolina with a muzzleloader and a public land doe with my longbow “Yankee”. On the day we recorded this episode I had morning success with a nice GA buck but that story is for a future episode. We hope you enjoy this episode...

T.O. Episode 133 – Out of the funk, with a swing and a miss
Episode 133 Well, I am out of the funk with a lot of whitetail sightings (an a couple of bears too) but I whiffed a buck this past week. Hear about my “almost success” experience, what I learned and future plans. This week’s question for our listeners, have you ever found a hunting location that should be productive any time during season and that you couldn’t wait to hunt? Was it productive? Please subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or Stitcher and leave a rating and review. I would also appre...

T.O. Episode 129 – Opening Day Reflections
Episode 129 is all about reflections I had sitting in the stand this past weekend which was opening weekend in Georgia. These are all focused on items I thought others might find useful related to hunting tactics (food sources, bedding, terrain/topography, funnels and trails), picking the best tree and stand location, final practice sessions and in season practice, I also include a quick suggestion for topo maps if you use a Garmin GPS after onX’s recent announcement regarding their State maps o...

This week Nick and I sit down with a true renaissance man in the traditional community, Mr. Rory Wiske. We discuss traditional bowhunting, fly fishing and fly tying. It was a great chance to catch up with someone I have been friends with on Facebook for a long time but never actually been able to speak with.
