TC 226: Juicing Reboot Update

In this episode of the Transformation Cafe podcast, host Robin Masiewicz provides an update on her results from going on a twenty-day juicing reboot. Regulars Jamie and Gloria and friend of the program Kymn join in the discussion. The group also discusses the benefits of growing your own produce.

Robin’s Results from 20-day Juice Reboot After the first 3 days overall energy increased Starting craving salads, and healthy soups over fast-food, bread, and desserts. Eating few if any processed foods. Clothes are looser Friends and family say I look more radiant and healthy Skin is healthier No aches or pains Was able to stay up later and slept more soundly Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2

While I was on the reboot, we attended the premiere of “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead 2“. Joe Cross’s documentary explored the challenges of transitioning from a reboot to learning to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In addition to Joe’s personal story, the first movie featured truck driver Phil Staple, who had the same chronic skin condition as Joe. Phil and was very obese and in constant pain. The movie chronicled how Joe helped Phil to achieve a healthy weight using juicing and exercise.

In the sequel we learn that after some personal setbacks Phil unfortunately slipped back into using food as comfort against his depression. The lesson from this is that to make a lasting change you need to have a support group, whether that is supportive friends, family, and/or a juicing community. He is now receiving support and is on the way to regaining his health.

The movie also chronicles how juicing is spreading world-wide. Fresh juice shops are springing up all over, and even our local doughnut shops are offering blended juices right along side the maple bars. Dr. Oz and other health-related shows are featuring the benefits of juicing, and many are crediting Joe Cross with inspiring this trend.

Lifestyle Changes

I am confident that I can do a traditional reboot with just juice now that I’ve experienced having one meal a day with juicing the rest of the day.

I learned that juicing is not a magic bullet, but it is an effective way to reset your body and eliminate dependence on caffeine, sugar, and carbohydrates.

I had several friends and family members who were my support team.  My younger sister also agreed to do the reboot with me.  We would check in very few days and see how things were going. It was nice to admit the cravings and challenges that came up and how we dealt with them. The comfort of an empathetic ear as we related the growlings of a unhappy stomach.  Thankfully that  didn’t last very long, I was amazed how by day three, just like Joe had promised, the cravings and growlings went away.

When you decide to make health changes especially around food it can be a challenge.  I reminded myself that it wouldn’t be a long time and I would take one day at a time; that made a big difference and comforted me.  One thing Joe said that really helped me was that the fat was energy and I was simply using the energy I already had.  All those diets I have been on didn’t come back to nag me, I was simply using my stored energy.  It’s great when a perspective can change your way of moving through what at times in my life has felt like a no-win situation.

I learned a lot about diet foods and how they really increase your appetite and put you into a deficit when your not truly getting all the nutrients your body needs.  I was craving juice once my body realized all of the benefits juicing provides for optimal health and vitality.  I won’t go a day without juice now; it’s that much of a positive change agent for me.  It’s like Joe says, instead of using pharmaceuticals, I now know that nature’s healing foods offer me all I need for wellness.
